Perfect Arrangement

The 50s were only fabulous when no one was looking…

It’s 1950 in Georgetown and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Two U.S. State Department employees, Bob and Norma, have been tasked with identifying deviants within their ranks. There’s just one problem: Both Bob and Norma are gay, and have married each other’s partners as a carefully constructed cover-up for their own careers. Inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, Perfect Arrangement merges madcap sitcom-style laughs with provocative drama as two “All-American” couples struggle to maintain their cover – and their sanity – in 1950s America.

“[A] clever canapé of a comedy... Mr. Payne is a deft and witty writer.”

– The New York Times

“Usually a playwright has to choose between writing a laugh-out-loud comedy and a very serious drama. Topher Payne has written both with Perfect Arrangement.”

– TheatreMania

World Builders

An out of this world love story

Whitney and Max live in their own, imaginary worlds. They are both patients in a clinical trial at Johns Hopkins Hospital experimenting with a new drug – a treatment that will cure them of their schizophrenic dreams and dissolve the worlds into which they retreat. With their memories progressively dwindling as the pills take effect, Whitney and Max agree to preserve each other’s creations by exchanging stories and recording the details of what they hear. As the act of sharing and the drugs’ effects replace dissociative fantasy with vivid emotion, the two stumble into mutual respect and sweetly fall in love. When the end of the study, and the continued obligation to medicate, puts both worlds and the relationship in further peril, Whitney and Max must decide whether to cling to the happiness they have built or abandon it in hopes of a “normal” life.

“A fascinating exploration of what it takes to truly love another person. …WORLD BUILDERS is profoundly thoughtful, transformative storytelling at its finest.”

—BroadwayWorld

“The play calls us to reconsider the realities to which we subscribe and their role in shaping our self-conception. …WORLD BUILDERS reaches no neat conclusions, but offers in Max and Whitney the possibility that love and empathy may well be worth the risks they entail.”

—Theasy.

Let Nothing You Dismay

A Heartwarming and Hilarious Holiday Comedy!

It's Christmas and Allie and Kevin are far from home in the maternity ward of an Ohio hospital, anxiously waiting for the birth of the child that they are hoping to adopt. And though they have asked their families to respect their privacy for the moment and let them have a quiet Christmas together, their crazy families ignore their wishes and descend upon the waiting room – complete with an entourage in tow. A sudden barrage of quirky family members arrives along with stepmothers, upstairs neighbors, a veterinarian, and an author to name a few – as well as a very pregnant birth mother who goes missing in all the action. Let Nothing You Dismay by Topher Payne (Evelyn In Purgatory, The Baby Shower) is a lightning-paced holiday farce that celebrates what it really means to be family.

"Laugh-out-loud funny, and a touching reminder of how much more alike we are than we realize."

- Atlanta Journal-Constitution

"In this day and age when a nuclear family is a relic of the past, and many times our family is made up of those we have chosen, this show is a Christmas story for everyone."

- Anchorage Press

"The perfect gift this holiday season."

Brooklyn Laundry

A play about family, relationships and surprising second chances?

Sometimes big things start from little things - in this case, a bag of laundry. Fran is broke, chronically single, and terrified of making decisions. Owen is a guy who sees life for what it is but is lonely and has a lot of baggage. So when Owen ends up asking Fran out at the laundromat, they are both excited to find the start of a meaningful connection with each other. However, when life’s savage tricks get in the way and Fran’s sisters need her more than ever, she is faced with the most difficult choice she’s ever had to make. Written by John Patrick Shanley, the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony-winning author of Doubt and the Oscar-winning writer of Moonstruck, Brooklyn Laundry is about romance, family, joy, and responsibility. Most of all, it’s a play about choosing to love and be loved.

“Shanley is playing on his home court, writing a quirky outer-borough romance mixed with a family drama, about two broken souls finding a bit of comfort in each other.”

—New York Magazine.

“…a testament to [Shanley’s] ability to create memorably flawed, vulnerable characters and the sort of sharp-edged comic dialogue that perfectly defines them.”

—New York Stage Review.

“Brooklyn Laundry offers a dizzying study in contrast between life’s relentless, unyielding sorrows and the stubborn, buoyant hope that is a necessity to survive them.”

—Chicago Reader.

Bassel & the Supernaturals

Syrian Heart | Midwest Soul

Bassel & The Supernaturals tells the story of Bassel Almadani's experience as a first generation Syrian-American using soulful melodies, funk inspired rhythms, and captivating lyrics regarding love, loss, and the feeling of “otherness”. Echoing Stevie Wonder’s rhythm and blues, Jamiroquai’s social justice centered lyricism over jazz-infused funk, and Steely Dan’s seamless blend of American music, Bassel & The Supernaturals evoke joy and thoughtfulness from audiences across the globe. Deeply inspired by Otis Redding, Bassel uses the stage as a vehicle to unite his listeners and share the story of his cultural duality. The band has performed in over 400 concerts on stages that include SXSW, John F. Kennedy Center, The Cleveland Museum of Art, Summerfest, Millennium Park – and now Whitefish, MT!

“Probably most appropriately called neo-soul, it’s a timeless and accomplished listen for ears that appreciate mature, enlightening sounds.” – New Noise Magazine

“Bassel & the Supernaturals captivate you with its sophisticated upmarket feel and posh velvety energy.” - Medium

differences in a small New York City apartment. Called “wildly, irresistibly, incredibly and continuously funny”, this classic Tony-Award winning comedy by Neil Simon is a timeless show not to miss!

The Best We Could (a family tragedy)

You can outrun the past—until it’s in the passenger seat.

In this funny, wise, and heartbreaking debut from Emily Feldman, a daughter’s road trip with her father becomes a theatrical journey across more than just state lines. Though 30-something Ella has nearly given up on life, she agrees to accompany her father Lou on a long-distance trip to adopt a rescue dog. Guided by a narrator called Maps and interspersed with memories and phone calls from Ella’s mother, Peg, their journey reveals hard truths as their pasts slowly rise to the surface. Is “the best we could” good enough, especially when the inevitable is right before our eyes? And if we don’t choose to acknowledge its eventuality, can we really say we didn’t know anything when it happens? A very funny, achingly sad tragedy that will keep you thinking long after leaving the theatre.

“Captivating and imaginative.” – New York Times

The Cottage

A Comedy Behind Closed Doors

Set in 1923, Sylvia and Beau find themselves in an English countyside cottage for their yearly rendezvous - when Sylvia decides to expose her affair to both her husband and her lover’s wife. What she doesn’t expect is a complicated and hilarious web of secrets and betrayal to unravel! With a tip of the hat to Noel Coward and British comedies of the past, the true meaning of fate and faith, identity and infidelity, love and marriage are all called into question in this ridiculously funny romantic comedy. The Cottage, written by Sandy Rustin (Clue) and fresh off a successful Broadway run in 2023, is a side-splitting romp of endless laughs, hilarious plot twists, daring physical comedy, and a happy ending for lovers everywhere.

“…[a] sidesplitting screwball comedy…The Cottage is a fresh and fiercely fun play that’s firing on all cylinders.”

“★★★★! …a naughty romp…Amid the old-fashioned trappings, Rustin nestles a welcome modern sensibility to the plot’s skirmishes of the sexes…”

—Time Out New York.
